Exhibition Seminar: Advanced Leak Localization in Offshore Multiphase Pipelines Using E-RTTM with Gradient Intersection

Exhibition Seminar
Leak localization in offshore multiphase pipelines is challenging due to varying hydraulic conditions, changing flow regimes, and large distances. Many statistical localization methods assume linear pressure or elevation profiles and therefore struggle when real pipeline behavior deviates from these simplified assumptions.
The approach presented here uses E-RTTM in combination with a Gradient Intersection Method that leverages the pipeline’s learned hydraulic profile. Instead of relying on a fixed or idealized model, the system continuously characterizes and updates the pipeline’s dynamic operating behavior based on real measured data. Leak location is determined by evaluating pressure and flow gradients along the pipeline, taking into account elevation changes and the actual hydraulic response of the system.
This enables accurate localization using standard field instrumentation, even under changing flow conditions and multiphase operation. The method is robust against non-linear profiles, operational fluctuations, and offshore environmental influences, providing reliable leak detection and localization without requiring specialized hardware or detailed multiphase flow modeling.
