Around the World Series 8: Indonesia's Road Map - Journey to Unconventional Development

Thursday, 2 April
Around the World Stage, Hall 6, Level 1
Around the World Series

This session outlines Indonesia’s journey toward unconventional resource development through an integrated strategic lens, connecting national energy security, production sustainability, and energy-transition objectives. It emphasizes how a clear road map, supported by phased pilots, risk-based prioritization, and disciplined value assessment can convert unconventional resource potential into executable and investable development pathways.

From a technical and ecosystem-enabler perspective, the session discusses fit-for-purpose technologies for tight and low-qualityreservoirs, cost-efficient development philosophies, and data-driven subsurface integration. It also highlights the importance of a coherentregulatory and institutional framework, where alignment between Government (ESDM), Regulator Institution (SKK Migas), and Operator (Pertamina) enables policy certainty, operational flexibility, capability building, and collaboration across operators, service providers, and academia to achieve scalable and sustainable unconventional development.

Focus Areas for Discussion:

  • Strategic and National Energy Context
  • Technology Pathway, Development of Tight and Low Quality Reservoir
  • Capability Building and Ecosystem Readiness
  • Regulatory, Fiscal Term and Commercial Viability
